Gah, LiveJournal Crashed...

All of it... damn... anyway, they'll be working through the weekend to bring stuff back up to snuff. Apparently it was some kind of serious power outage. Here's what I saw when I accessed my LJ:

Our data center (Internap, the same one we've been at for many years) lost all its power, including redundant backup power, for some unknown reason. (unknown to me, at least) We're currently dealing with bringing our 100+ servers back online. Not fun. We're not happy about this. Sorry... :-/ More details later.

Update #1, 7:35 pm PST: we have power again, and we're working to assess the state of the databases. The worst thing we could do right now is rush the site up in an unreliable state. We're checking all the hardware and data, making sure everything's consistent. Where it's not, we'll be restoring from recent backups and replaying all the changes since that time, to get to the current point in time, but in good shape. We'll be providing more technical details later, for those curious, on the power failure (when we learn more), the database details, and the recovery process. For now, please be patient. We'll be working all weekend on this if we have to.

Well... fuck. At least I have my slightly outdated greymatter blog.

Raider3.com Progress Report - Dec. 2004

Still working on evolving the next version of Raider3.com - Keywords are: Content Management.

Yes, you're not seeing things. I've disabled the Raider3 World Forums until school's back in session. I'm taking whatever steps I can to protect myself from so called l33t h@X0r skr1p3 k1dd13z, including full system backups on the site. You tend to learn a lot from being caught with your pants down once already. Never again.

Stay tuned for more news, and re-enabling of full features.

For Those Of You Who Were Wondering

Yes, I am aware that nearly 100 emails were that did not originate from raider3.com were bounced back to the email servers here between Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24, 2004, including at least three requests to confirm enrollment of email addresses ending in raider3.com in various Yahoo! Groups.

All of these emails consisted of randomized strings of characters, forged or spoofed to appear to be coming from here. I am aware of the problems, and am taking all necessary steps to locate, and if found, take legal action against those taking part in the spoofing. Abuse of my domain name absolutely will not be tolerated, and I will cooperate with all authorities, as well as strengthen security procedures to protect against such actions being repeated.

Expect changes to be made to the Terms and Conditions of raider3.com shortly.
